Additional information

Issued to coincide with France's presidency of the G20 and G8 in 2011, this piece was part of a broader numismatic program released under Nicolas Sarkozy's government, which placed significant political capital on that year's summits in Cannes and Deauville. The Monnaie de Paris treated the presidency as a commercial opportunity, producing multiple denominations and formats aimed squarely at the collector market rather than circulation.

At 4 grams of .999 fine gold, the coin contains less actual metal than its face value implies at almost any gold price — a deliberate calculus the Paris mint has long understood well.
