| Reverse description | Full-length standing figure of the Cynic philosopher Diogenes of Sinope rendered in high relief, depicted as a bearded elderly man leaning upon a staff, with a dog seated at his feet — a traditional attribute of the Cynic school. Behind the figure stands his famous barrel (pithos), rendered in careful perspective. The curved legend ΔΙΟΓΕΝΗΣ 412-323 π.Χ. (Diogenes 412–323 B.C.) arcs along the upper left field, with the date 2017 inscribed in the central upper field. A small fleur-de-lis mint mark appears to the right of the figure. The reverse shares the same elaborate outer border of classical decorative motifs as the obverse, unifying the coin's design. |
