Obverse description The obverse features a central composition combining a mariner's compass rose, a stylized celestial armillary sphere, and a leaping dolphin or sea creature to the upper right, rendered in low relief. In the lower left quadrant, an organic mass suggesting a landmass or rock formation is depicted alongside the Portuguese royal coat of arms to the lower right. The circular legend REPUBLICA PORTUGUESA arcs along the left and upper periphery, with the date 2000 positioned at the top of the field and the denomination 200 ESCUDOS inscribed along the lower rim.
