A Cross of the Order of Christ is prominently placed over the Florida region, with the inscription TERRA FLORIDA identifying the territory. The Tropic of Cancer line is delineated across the map, and the date 1501 commemorates the Portuguese exploration of the area. In the lower field, a caravel under lateen sail is shown heading toward Florida, with the engraver's signature A. MARINHO and the mint mark INCM appearing in the exergue. |
