| Obverse description | At centre, the carrack Victoria depicted under full sail in a dynamic composition, representing the sole vessel to complete Magellan's circumnavigation of the globe under the subsequent command of Juan Sebastián Elcano. The Portuguese coat of arms is positioned above to the left, with the denomination '200 ESC' displayed to the right of the vessel's stern. Surrounding inscriptions include the issuing authority, mint mark 'INCM', year of issue, and the engraver's name 'S.MACHADO' in the field. The ship's rigging and hull are rendered in fine detail consistent with the biscayne caravel typology of the early sixteenth century. |
