Reverse description The reverse presents a dramatic allegorical scene commemorating death at sea, engraved in a bold, expressive style by A. Marinho. At centre, a sinking or stricken vessel is depicted plunging downward amid stylised storm elements, with rain rendered as diagonal streaks emanating from a cloud to the left and turbulent, swirling waves filling the lower field. A sea creature or monstrous figure emerges from the churning waters at the base of the composition. The legend 'MORTE NO MAR' (Death on the Sea) arcs along the left rim, while the engraver's signature 'A. MARINHO' and the mint mark 'INCM' appear in small lettering at the lower left and lower centre of the field respectively.
