The Ravel 200-franc note, introduced in 1995, was France's last major addition to its franc series before euro changeover planning locked in the final lineup. "Échantillon type" denotes a specimen or reference example — these were produced by the Banque de France's own facility at Chamalières for internal use, training, or archive purposes, not for public release.
Chamalières has printed Banque de France notes since the 1920s, and specimen production there followed strict internal protocols — typically overprinted or punch-cancelled to prevent any possibility of passing as genuine currency.
