Obverse description Right-facing diademed and draped effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, wearing a tiara adorned with floral motifs, her hair elegantly styled. The legend ELIZABETH II arcs along the left periphery and COOK ISLANDS along the right, with the date 1979 centered in the lower exergue. The portrait is rendered in high relief against a mirrored proof field, characteristic of Franklin Mint production.

Reverse description A bird in full flight is depicted at center, wings broadly spread and body facing right, carrying a leafy olive branch in its talons above a bed of tropical hibiscus blossoms. Flanking the bird are two decorative floral sprays with roses. A scrolled ribbon banner beneath the bird bears the Latin motto NIL INTENTATUM RELIQUIT. The fineness inscription 900 1000 FINE GOLD appears in the lower field. The peripheral legend THE LEGACY OF CAPTAIN JAMES COOK arcs along the upper border, while the denomination · 200 DOLLARS · is inscribed along the lower border.
