Reverse description Intricately engraved proof reverse celebrating the Diwali Festival of Lights, centered on a traditional oil lamp (diya) with a lit flame rendered in high relief at the heart of a concentric mandala-like composition. Surrounding the diya in a circular arrangement are alternating Khanda symbols (the emblem of the Sikh faith) and pairs of cupped hands in a gesture of offering or prayer. An inner beaded ring frames this central medallion, while a broader outer band is filled with repeating Om (ॐ) symbols interspersed with maple leaf motifs and delicate floral scrollwork. The designer's monogram 'SD' (Susan Taylor) appears in the lower right field.

Additional information

The Royal Canadian Mint has produced Diwali-themed issues since the mid-2000s, reflecting both Canada's substantial South Asian diaspora and a deliberate effort to expand collector markets into communities historically underserved by Western numismatic institutions. By 2015, these releases had become annual fixtures in the RCM's bullion-adjacent commemorative program, typically selling out quickly through South Asian Canadian community networks well before reaching the secondary market.
