Additional information

The Battle of Britain ran from July to October 1940, and by its end the RAF had lost over 1,500 aircraft. The Luftwaffe, expecting a quick collapse, instead found itself in an attritional campaign it hadn't planned for. Dowding's use of the Dowding System — an integrated network of radar, Observer Corps reports, and sector controllers — gave Fighter Command an information advantage that raw numbers alone didn't reflect.

Perth Mint's commemorative gold program for major WWII anniversaries has been consistent since the 1990s. The 2 oz .9999 fine gold format used here is among their heavier single-coin issues in the anniversary series.
