| Reverse description | A highly detailed coiled snake is depicted in high relief at the centre of the field, its scales rendered with fine sculptural precision as it rests among stylised grass tufts and bamboo stalks rising in the background to the right. The Chinese character 蛇 (snake) appears in the left field, and the Perth Mint's P mintmark is positioned to the lower left. The curved legend YEAR OF THE SNAKE arcs along the lower periphery in an italic serif typeface. The overall composition draws on traditional Chinese Lunar New Year iconography, forming part of the Perth Mint's Lunar Series II. |

| Additional information |
Perth Mint's lunar bullion series traces its origins to 1996, when the Royal Australian Mint declined to continue its own lunar program and Perth moved aggressively to fill that gap. The two-ounce gold denomination sits at the upper end of the standard lunar bullion weight range and commands a correspondingly thin secondary market — most buyers hold rather than sell.
The Snake is the sixth animal in the twelve-year cycle, meaning this 2013 issue completes the second full rotation since the series launched.
