This piece is a mule — a coin struck from two dies not originally intended to be paired. The 2001 Kookaburra series was produced in standard one-ounce silver, but this $200 face value designation does not correspond to any authorized bullion or collector issue in the Kookaburra program. The precise die combination responsible for this mule and the circumstances of its release from Perth Mint have never been fully documented publicly, which is itself telling — the Perth Mint has historically been tight-lipped about confirmed production errors that escaped quality control.
