Reverse description A highly detailed, naturalistically rendered platypus (Ornithorhynchus anatinus) is depicted in the central field, foraging among aquatic vegetation and stones in its river habitat. The animal's characteristic duck-bill, webbed forefeet, and broad beaver-like tail are rendered with exceptional sculptural precision. The legend PRIDE OF AUSTRALIA arcs along the upper periphery, while the denomination TWO HUNDRED DOLLARS curves along the lower field. The design is enclosed within a beaded border and was engraved by Horst Hahne, whose initials HH appear in the lettering. The composition effectively conveys the unique character of this endemic Australian monotreme.
