The Williamson diamond brooch was a wedding gift to Princess Elizabeth in 1947, presented by Canadian geologist John Thoburn Williamson from the Mwadui mine in Tanzania — at the time the most productive diamond pipe outside South Africa. The pink diamond at its centre, just over 23 carats in the rough, was cut to approximately 23.6 carats and set by Cartier. Elizabeth wore the brooch repeatedly throughout her reign, making it one of the more personally significant pieces in the royal collection.
This issue continues the RCM's multi-year program of jewelled gold coins referencing pieces from the Royal Collection, now transitioning to Charles III's reign.
