| Reverse description | The reverse presents a highly sculptural, high-relief rendition of Pharaoh Amenhotep IV (Akhenaten) and Queen Nefertiti facing one another in an intimate composition at centre. Amenhotep IV is depicted at left in three-quarter profile, wearing the striped nemes headdress adorned with a uraeus at the brow, a broad collar, and a braided ceremonial beard. Nefertiti is portrayed at right in profile, crowned with her distinctive flat-topped blue crown surmounted by a uraeus, and wearing ornate circular earrings and an elaborate broad beaded collar. The two figures are rendered in a romanticised neo-Egyptian artistic style with finely detailed surface modelling against a polished field, evoking the celebrated artistic traditions of the Amarna period. |
