Additional information

Umm Al Qaiwain issued this coin in 1970 as part of a wave of proof sets produced by several Trucial States in the final months before the UAE federation formally came into existence in December 1971. These issues were driven largely by overseas collector demand rather than any domestic monetary need — Ahmad II's emirate had a population of only a few thousand at the time, and the pieces never meaningfully circulated. Franklin Mint handled production and international distribution for much of this series.
