Reverse description The reverse presents a dynamic battle scene commemorating the Polish assault on Monte Cassino in May 1944. In the lower field, three Polish infantrymen in steel helmets are depicted in combat — one advancing upright with a submachine gun, one prone and crawling, and one firing from a crouching position — set against a rocky terrain. Behind them, the distinctive hilltop abbey of Monte Cassino rises dramatically in the middle ground. A row of red poppies, emblematic of the fallen soldiers commemorated in the famous Polish poem, blooms along the lower exergue. The encircling legend reads ŻOŁNIERZ POLSKI NA FRONTACH II WOJNY ŚWIATOWEJ, with MONTE CASSINO / 11-18 MAJA - 1944 inscribed in two lines across the upper field; the engraver's initials BCh appear at lower right.
