Cologne's municipal administration was among dozens of German cities forced into emergency currency issuance during the hyperinflation of 1923, when Reichsbank notes became obsolete faster than they could be printed. The 200-Million-Mark denomination places this note squarely in the autumn peak of the crisis — by November 1923, even this figure was laughably insufficient for daily transactions.
M. Dumont Schauberg was primarily a newspaper and commercial printing house based in Cologne, pressed into notgeld production alongside its regular work. The Rentenmark reform of November 1923 rendered the entire series worthless within weeks of issue.
