By late 1923, the Reichsbank was printing denominations that would have been unimaginable eighteen months earlier. This 200-billion Mark note belongs to the terminal phase of the hyperinflation, when the Reichsdruckerei was running multiple shifts and notes were sometimes issued before the ink had fully dried — a known problem that caused smearing on early impressions of several high-denomination types from this period.
The Rentenmark reform came into effect on 15 November 1923, at a conversion rate of one new Mark to one trillion old ones. Notes like this were rendered worthless within weeks of issue.
