| Reverse description | A rectangular inset portrait of Stanisław Wyspiański, depicted in a bust-length effigy facing slightly left with a beard and expressive features, rendered in high relief against a dark background occupies the left portion of the field. Flanking the portrait to the right, stylized floral and botanical motifs in Art Nouveau style fill the field. In the lower right corner, a painter's palette with colored drops in red, blue, and yellow is applied in color enamel. The cursive inscription 'Stanisław Wyspiański 1869–1907' appears along the lower margin. |

Wyspiański died in 1937 at — wait. He died in 1907, aged 38, from syphilis complicated by tuberculosis, having compressed an extraordinary output of painting, poetry, and drama into roughly a decade of adult work. The 2004 issue marks the centenary of his 1904 staging of Wesele — or more precisely, the centenary of the period when his reputation had fully crystallized in Polish cultural consciousness, despite his body already failing him.
