| Obverse description | The obverse features the crowned eagle of the Polish People's Republic displayed in the upper field, rendered in a stylized socialist heraldic manner with spread wings and a forward-facing head. The denomination '20' appears in large numerals in the lower field, with 'ZŁOTYCH' inscribed beneath. The circular legend 'POLSKA • RZECZPOSPOLITA • LUDOWA • 1979' runs along the periphery, interrupted at the base by the denomination. The mint mark 'MW' (Mennica Warszawska) is incorporated into the design near the date. |

The Memorial Hospital Center — Centrum Zdrowia Dziecka — opened in Warsaw in 1977 as Poland's flagship pediatric medical complex, its construction partly funded through a national public donation campaign. This 1979 trial strike in nickel was produced at the Warsaw Mint as part of the proofing process before the circulating commemorative was approved, making it a working document of the mint's production rather than a coin intended for any public release. Trial pieces from the Warsaw Mint of this period frequently survive in tiny numbers, often retained by mint employees or exchanged through official channels within the Eastern Bloc numismatic trade network.
