Obverse description On this diamond-oriented square flan, the upper field features the Polish state eagle with spread wings, below which appears the date 2003. To the right, a three-quarter-length effigy of Pope John Paul II is depicted in papal vestments, holding a pastoral staff (ferula) and rendered against a stylized background of bare branches. The legend RZECZPOSPOLITA POLSKA is inscribed across the lower field, with the denomination 20 ZŁ appearing at the bottom point of the square.

Reverse description The reverse presents a finely modeled right-facing portrait bust of Pope John Paul II in high relief against a matte field, rendered with exceptional sculptural detail capturing his aged yet distinguished features. The legend JAN PAWEŁ II is inscribed in bold capitals along the upper right edge of the square field, while the commemorative inscription 25-LECIE PONTYFIKATU (25th Anniversary of the Pontificate) runs diagonally along the lower right border.
