Obverse description Imperial Russian double-headed eagle displayed in the centre of the field, each head crowned with a small imperial crown and surmounted by a large central crown above. The eagle's breast bears a quartered shield depicting the St. George and the Dragon motif, itself surrounded by smaller armorial escutcheons representing the various provinces of the Russian Empire. The dexter talon clutches a sceptre and the sinister talon an orb surmounted by a cross. The Cyrillic initials П Д (mintmaster's mark) appear in the lower field to either side of the eagle's tail feathers, with a fine dentillated border encircling the entire design.
