| Obverse description | Left-facing bust of Yuan Shikai, President of the Republic of China, depicted in military uniform with collar insignia, rendered in high relief in the characteristic rotund style that gave rise to the colloquial 'Fat Man dollar' designation. The portrait is enclosed within a raised inner circle, surrounded by an ornate outer border of stylized ruyi cloud scrollwork in continuous pattern. The field between the portrait and inner circle is plain and unlettered. The engraving, executed by Italian medallist Luigi Giorgi, displays a marked European academic style combined with Chinese decorative motifs. |
