| Reverse description | The reverse presents a detailed frontal view of the first Grand National Assembly building in Ankara occupying the lower half of the field. Above the building, a large stylised numeral '85' dominates the upper field, incorporating the word 'Yıl' (Year) in script lettering within its design, flanked on either side by small olive branches in relief. Below the architectural motif, a three-line legend reads 'MİLLÎ EGEMENLİK YILI' (Year of National Sovereignty), with the date '2005' in the exergue. The coin commemorates the 85th anniversary of the establishment of the Turkish Grand National Assembly. |

The "Yeni" (New) Lira was introduced on January 1, 2005, replacing the old Turkish Lira at a rate of 1,000,000 to one — the cumulative result of decades of inflation that had reduced the original lira, once pegged near parity with the US dollar in the 1920s, to effectively worthless fractions. Dropping six zeros was as much psychological as economic.
KM#1189 is a collector issue from that inaugural year, not a circulation strike.
