| Obverse description | Central view of the Taedong Gate (East Gate) in Pyongyang, rendered in fine relief against a mirror-polished field, depicting the traditional multi-tiered Korean pavilion structure set upon a stone base with decorative stonework and foliage at the lower portion. The circular legend 조선민주주의인민공화국중앙은행 (Central Bank of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea) runs along the upper periphery in Hangul script. The denomination 20 원 appears in the exergue at the base of the coin. |

A square cartouche in the upper right field contains the Chinese seal-script character 辰 (dragon), the cyclic character denoting the Year of the Dragon in the traditional Chinese calendar. The date 2013 appears in the lower exergue in Arabic numerals. |
