Obverse description Central motif depicts the Taedong Gate (Taedongmun), a historic multi-tiered traditional Korean pavilion rendered in fine detail, occupying the centre of the field with decorative foliage at its base. A circular Hangul legend runs along the upper periphery, reading the full name of the Central Bank of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea. The denomination '20 WON' is inscribed in Latin characters along the lower rim.

Reverse description The reverse features a dynamic scene of an orca (killer whale) breaching alongside a small boat crewed by several figures, rendered in high relief against a stylised ocean background with waves.
