Turkmenistan's 1993 coinage series was among the first acts of monetary independence following the Soviet dissolution, with the manat and its subdivisions introduced on November 1, 1993, replacing the Soviet ruble. The teňňe denominations were struck abroad — Turkmenistan had no domestic mint capacity at independence.
