| Additional information |
Struck at Recife in the final months before the Dutch were expelled from northeastern Brazil by Portuguese forces, this issue marks the effective end of New Holland — the WIC's colonial project in Brazil that had lasted since 1630. The fall of Recife in January 1654 terminated both the colony and any further output from this mint, making this among the last coins produced by a European power in colonial Brazil before the Portuguese reasserted control.
