Obverse description Within a beaded inner circle set on a square flan, the crowned coat of arms of Woerden occupies the central field, flanked by the denomination numeral '20' to the right. The date '75' (for 1575) appears at the top of the legend. The circular Latin legend PRO ARIS ET FOCIS (meaning 'For altars and hearths') runs around the arms within the beaded border, punctuated by a decorative cross-pattee stop. The entire design is crudely but forcefully struck on the rough tin planchet, consistent with the urgent wartime circumstances of the siege of Woerden during the Dutch Revolt.
