| Obverse description | Irregular square klippe flan struck in silver, oriented as a diamond. At the centre, a raised circular inner field bears the two-line legend BRE / DÆ, enclosed within a beaded inner circle. A circular legend reading IN · NECESSITATE · 1577 · BREDÆ runs between the inner beaded border and an outer beaded border. At the upper corner of the klippe a small ornamental device (possibly a crown or fleur-de-lis finial) is present, while the left corner displays the arms of Breda and the right corner a fleur-de-lis. The denomination XX appears in a rectangular cartouche at the lower corner, affirming the face value of 20 stuivers. |
