Comments

The somoni series was introduced in 2000 when Tajikistan replaced the transitional Tajik ruble, itself only a few years old — the country had been through two currency overhauls within a decade, largely as a consequence of the civil war that ended in 1997 and the economic collapse that accompanied it. The 20 somoni denomination sits in the middle of a series that was clearly designed with modest transaction values in mind for a still-recovering economy.

P#25A distinguishes this date range from the earlier P#25 issues. The security specification for this denomination remained conservative relative to contemporaneous regional issues.
