Obverse description Draped bust of Louis XIV facing right, with long flowing curled wig, set within a beaded inner circle. The royal effigy is rendered in high relief in the classical French baroque style. The encircling Latin legend reads LVD XIIII D G FR ET NAV REX, identifying the king as Louis XIV, by the Grace of God, King of France and Navarre. The date appears in the lower field beneath the bust truncation.
