Obverse description Central field features the Somali national arms — a quartered shield bearing horizontal stripes and a central five-pointed star, flanked by two leopard supporters resting on a base of olive branches. The inscription SOMALI REPUBLIC arcs along the upper periphery within a beaded border, while the date 2022 is split to either side of the shield. The denomination 20 SHILLINGS appears in the lower field beneath the arms.

Somalia's Elephant bullion series has run continuously since 1999, with the reverse design updated annually — a deliberate strategy borrowed from the South African Krugerrand and Austrian Philharmonic model to encourage year-on-year collector demand. The 0.5g format exists almost entirely for gift and entry-level bullion markets; it contains too little metal for serious stacking but enough fine gold to qualify as legal tender under Somali law, however nominally that authority functions.
