Issued to mark the 25th anniversary of the Brunei Currency and Monetary Board, which was established in 1967 following the country's formal separation from the common currency arrangement it had shared with Malaysia and Singapore. That tripartite agreement, the BCCS, collapsed under the pressures of Singapore's 1965 independence and subsequent diverging monetary priorities — Brunei chose to maintain interchangeability with Singapore rather than Malaysia, an arrangement that quietly persists to this day under the Currency Interchangeability Agreement.
