| Obverse description | Central to the obverse is a large rounded-square cartouche bearing the bold numeral '20' above the denomination legend 'SCHILLING' in uppercase lettering. The date '19 99' flanks a small Austrian shield — the federal arms depicting a red-and-white fess — at the base of the cartouche. The circular legend 'REPUBLIK ÖSTERREICH' runs along the periphery of the field, reading clockwise from the lower left. The overall design is executed in a clean, modernist style engraved by Kurt Bodlak. |
