The Alliierte Militärbehörde (Allied Military Authority) schilling notes were introduced following the liberation of Austria in 1945, providing an interim currency while the Allied powers administered the country's four occupation zones. This series was printed by De La Rue in London well before boots were on the ground — the 1944 print date reflects forward planning by SHAEF financial staff, not a wartime Austrian issuance.

The notes circulated alongside both the old Reichsmark and later the reconstituted Austrian schilling, creating considerable confusion during the transition period. De La Rue's watermarked paper was a deliberate counterfeit deterrent at a time when Nazi-produced forgeries of Allied currencies were an active concern.
