Morocco's 2002 coinage reform under Mohammed VI — who had acceded to the throne in 1999 following the death of Hassan II — consolidated a fractional series that had seen little substantive revision in decades. The aluminium bronze alloy chosen for this denomination was already well-established across North African and Mediterranean issues by this point, selected primarily for its resistance to corrosion in coastal circulation environments.
