| Additional information |
Yelnya is a raised bog complex in the Vitebsk region of northwestern Belarus — one of the largest in Europe, covering roughly 25,000 hectares. The National Bank of Belarus has issued commemorative silver pieces tied to the country's protected natural zones since the early 2000s, and Yelnya has drawn particular attention from conservationists for its role in mitigating regional carbon release. The bog's peat layers date back approximately 9,000 years.
