Issued to mark the 60th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War — the Soviet designation for the Eastern Front conflict of 1941–1945. Belarus suffered among the highest per-capita losses of any Soviet republic during the occupation, with estimates suggesting roughly a quarter of the prewar population perished. That historical weight sits behind essentially every Belarusian commemorative of this period.
