| Reverse description | The reverse presents an elaborate orientalist composition centered on a dome-shaped arch incorporating an inlaid transparent blue synthetic crystal insert, evoking the ornamental ceiling of a Caliph's palace. Behind the arch windows, fantastical Eastern landscapes are depicted. Below the arch, against the backdrop of an Eastern city, emblematic characters and motifs of Oriental fairy tales are arranged: an amphora, a flying carpet, a camel, and a serpent. To the left appears a nocturnal Eastern cityscape, while to the right a domra (a stringed instrument), a tree, and birds are rendered in relief. A security feature of the design reveals, upon 180° rotation, the face of a veiled Eastern woman adorned with rich ornamental decoration. The upper rim carries the Cyrillic inscription 'ТЫСЯЧА І АДНА НОЧ' (The Thousand and One Nights). |
