| Obverse description | At center, a detailed relief reconstruction of the ancient fortified settlement of Izyaslavl (present-day Zaslavl) as it appeared during the era of Princess Rogneda. The State Coat of Arms of the Republic of Belarus is depicted in relief at the upper portion of the field. Rogvolod was a Varangian prince ruling Polotsk in the 980s when Vladimir of Novgorod sent envoys to request his daughter Rogneda's hand. She refused, reportedly insulting Vladimir's birth. Vladimir responded by attacking Polotsk, killing Rogvolod and his sons, and forcing Rogneda into marriage. The episode is recorded in the Primary Chronicle and sits at the intersection of Rus' consolidation and the destruction of one of its earliest independent principalities.
Belarus has consistently used its silver commemorative program to anchor national identity to Polotsk's medieval history — a city now in Belarus that predates Kyiv's political dominance in the region.
