Issued as part of Belarus's long-running wildlife conservation series, this piece was released the same year the country was deepening international cooperation around the Prypiat River wetlands — one of Europe's last great floodplain ecosystems and a critical staging ground on the East Atlantic Flyway. The common crane's inclusion reflects genuine ecological stakes, not decoration: Belarusian wetlands support hundreds of thousands of migrating cranes annually.
KM#73 was struck at the Lietuvos monetų kalykla mint in Vilnius, as Belarus lacked domestic minting capacity at the time.
