| Reverse description | The reverse displays a finely detailed, gold-plated relief depiction of the Vladimir Icon of the Mother of God (Theotokos of Vladimir), a celebrated Byzantine icon of the Eleusa (Tender Mercy) type. The Virgin Mary is shown in three-quarter view, tenderly cradling the Christ Child, whose cheek is pressed against hers in an intimate embrace; both figures bear gold-plated haloes rendered in a radiant sunburst pattern. Flanking the central icon panel are two vertical columns of smaller saintly figures in silver relief, with additional holy figures depicted in the upper border, all executed in precise iconographic style. The Cyrillic abbreviations for the Mother of God and Christ are inscribed in the field adjacent to the respective figures. The inscription УЛАДЗІМІРСКАЯ appears in a cartouche along the lower border, identifying the icon by its Belarusian name. |
