The Eurasian Economic Union formally came into force on January 1, 2015, binding Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Armenia, and Kyrgyzstan into a customs and single-market framework modeled loosely on EU structures. This 2019 issue marks the five-year point of that arrangement — a commemorative milestone Belarus had particular reason to celebrate, given how heavily its export economy depends on preferential access to Russian markets.
Belarus has been a prolific issuer of .925 silver commemoratives through the National Bank, often in small runs aimed squarely at the collector market rather than circulation.
