The Dniepra-Sozhsky Reserve sits at the confluence of the Dnieper and Sozh rivers in the Gomel region, a floodplain system that survived Soviet-era agricultural drainage campaigns largely intact. Belarus established it as a protected zone in 1999, making this coin one of the earlier issues in the National Bank's ongoing wildlife reserve series — a program that has grown into one of the more prolific silver commemorative sequences in post-Soviet numismatics.
