Belarus issued a long-running series of literary-themed silver coins throughout the 2000s, and this piece belongs to that program. The embedded synthetic crystal was a deliberate production choice — Belarusian mint output during this period frequently incorporated inlaid stones and colored enamels as a way of differentiating collectible issues in an increasingly crowded commemorative market dominated by similar programs from Kazakhstan, Ukraine, and other post-Soviet mints.
Carroll's 1865 novel had no particular Belarusian connection; the theme was chosen for international collector appeal rather than cultural relevance.
