Obverse description Red intaglio print on multicolor guilloche underprint. A circular vignette at centre frames a three-quarter portrait of Reza Shah Pahlavi in military uniform with medals and decorations. Denomination cartouches in ornate floral frames appear to the left and right of the portrait, with the Bank Melli Iran title in Persian script at top and two signature lines with Persian text at bottom.

Reverse description Red intaglio print on plain paper. A central circular medallion contains the Iranian imperial coat of arms — the Lion and Sun motif with a sword-bearing lion before a rising sun, surmounted by a crown and enclosed in a laurel wreath. Below the medallion spreads a large stylised Faravahar (winged figure) motif. Denomination numerals '20' appear in each corner, with denomination in Persian script in cartouches to the left and right of the central vignette, and the Bank Melli Iran title in Persian script at top. Imprint of the American Bank Note Company at bottom centre.
