Reverse description The reverse displays the Imperial arms of Brazil at center: a shield bearing an armillary sphere set within a rectangular escutcheon, encircled by a ring of nineteen stars representing the provinces of the Empire, and surmounted by the Imperial crown. The shield is flanked on either side by symmetrical laurel branches tied at the base, their fronds extending elegantly upward to frame the armorial achievement. The Latin motto IN HOC SIGNO VINCES curves around the upper periphery within a beaded border, referencing the Constantinian device. The composition is rendered in bold relief consistent with the milled copper coinage of the early Brazilian Empire.
