Obverse description Central field features the Swiss coat of arms — a heraldic shield bearing a raised cross in relief — flanked symmetrically on either side by decorative sprays of alpine flowers and foliage in high relief. The national legend HELVETIA arcs across the upper portion of the field in widely spaced incuse capital letters. The date appears in the lower field beneath the shield, flanked by small decorative stars. The coin is bordered by a distinctive toothed or beaded inner rim running around the entire circumference.
